1. Who we are and what these terms cover
EpiNexus is provided by EpiNexus, Teknikringen 7, 583 30 Linköping, Sweden (“we”, “us”). These terms cover your use of the EpiNexus application at app.epinexus.io. You accept them the first time you sign in. The privacy policy explains how we handle personal data. If your institution has a separate agreement with us, that agreement applies where it differs from these terms.
2. Who may use EpiNexus
- EpiNexus is for professional use: you use it for your work, for the organisation you work or study at. It is not offered to consumers.
- You must be at least 18 years old.
- If you use EpiNexus for an organisation, you confirm that you may accept these terms for that use.
3. Your account
- An account is for one person. Don’t share your sign-in with others; each person needs their own account.
- Sign up with your own institutional email address, and keep your details correct.
- Keep your password safe and tell us at once if you think someone else has used your account.
- You are responsible for what is done with your account.
4. The free trial
A new account that signs itself up is a free trial. It includes:
- one analysis (one run) within 30 days of signing up, of up to 8 libraries, input and IgG controls included;
- up to 20 GB of uploaded files, and imports of FASTQ files from public archives (ENA). Data that would have to be converted from SRA can’t be imported in a trial;
- analyses on shared machines that may be in short supply, so a trial run may wait before it starts. A trial run that never starts doesn’t count: you can start it again.
When the trial’s run has been used, or the 30 days have passed, your account becomes read-only: you can still view, download and delete your projects, but not add data or start analyses. Your trial projects are deleted 60 days after the trial ends, with their files and results, unless your account gets full access before then. The application shows the date at the top of every page. Download what you want to keep before that date.
The trial costs nothing and doesn’t turn into a paid plan by itself. One trial per person: don’t create more accounts to get more trials. We may change or end the free trial for new accounts.
5. Full access
Full access is given by us — for example to invited pilot users, or under an agreement with your institution — with or without an end date. When full access ends, your account becomes read-only as described above. What full access includes, and any price, is agreed separately.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- upload data you have no right to upload or analyse, or data that is unlawful;
- upload sequencing data from people other than as described in section 7;
- use EpiNexus to store files that are not for analysis in it;
- try to reach other users’ data, get around limits or security, or disturb the service (for example by overloading it or by automated mass use);
- copy, decompile or resell the software, or use it to build a competing service.
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms. Where we can, we tell you first and give you the chance to put it right.
7. Your data
- You keep all rights to the data you upload and to your results. You give us the permission needed to store and process the data to provide EpiNexus to you, and nothing more.
- We don’t share your data, sell it or use it for our own research. Details are in the privacy policy.
- Data from people. Sequencing data from human participants may be uploaded only after your institution has signed a data processing agreement with us, only in pseudonymised form (no names, dates of birth, hospital or record numbers or other direct identifiers — also not in file, sample or project names), and only when your institution’s approvals allow it.
- Public data. When you import data from public archives, follow the archive’s conditions and cite the data as its authors ask.
- Keep your own copies. EpiNexus is not a backup service. Keep the original files, and download the results you need.
8. Results
EpiNexus computes results with published methods and open-source tools, and records the versions and settings it used. Results depend on your data and on the choices made in each analysis. Check them before you rely on them, for example in a publication or a decision, and cite the methods and tools as the generated methods text describes.
9. The service and its changes
We work to keep EpiNexus available and correct, but it may sometimes be unavailable, for example during maintenance or when computing capacity is short. We improve EpiNexus over time and may change, add or remove features. We tell you in advance about changes that take something important away from you.
10. No warranty
As far as the law allows, EpiNexus is provided “as is”, without any warranty that it will be error-free, uninterrupted or fit for a particular purpose.
11. Liability
As far as the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, such as lost profits, lost data or the cost of repeating experiments. For the free trial, which costs nothing, we are not liable beyond what the law requires. Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law doesn’t allow us to limit, such as for intent or gross negligence.
12. Ending your use
You can stop using EpiNexus at any time and ask us to delete your account by writing to info@epinexus.io. We may end the service for an account under section 6, or end the service as a whole with at least 30 days’ notice by email, giving you time to download your results.
13. Changes to these terms
When we change these terms, we publish the new version here with its date, tell account holders by email about significant changes, and ask you to accept the new version the next time you sign in. If you don’t accept it, you can download your data and ask us to delete your account.
14. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by Swedish law. Disputes are decided by the Swedish courts, with Linköping District Court (Linköpings tingsrätt) as the first instance. We would welcome the chance to resolve any problem with you first.
